Che Chen:
"Attention Patterns" is now available on Black Pollen Press / Important Records. It is a double LP and 48 page booklet set, featuring new and archival compositions by Pauline Oliveros, Eliane Radigue, Yoshi Wada and Sun Circle. Conceived of as an inquiry into the sonic practices of presence and slowness, "Attention Patterns" has brought together composers with a shared affinity for long, gradually unfolding durations and harmonic approaches to tuning. Each of the aforementioned has contributed a full LP side to the release--archival compositions in the cases of Oliveros and Radigue, and brand new pieces from Wada and Sun Circle. The set also comes with a beautifully designed, 48 page, 8.5" x 10" booklet full of related texts, photos and archival ephemera, including several of Oliveros’ “Sonic Meditations”―verbal scores composed in the 1970s that help to form the basis for her concept of “Deep Listening”―and exclusive interviews with Radigue, Wada, and Sun Circle, as well as an in-depth article by Radigue collaborator and cellist, Charles Curtis.
"Attention Patterns" is the inaugural release of my new imprint Black Pollen Press (in collaboration with Important Records) and is available for $33 + shipping from the website:
